As I’ve stated in the past, I began my self-publishing journey in the beginning of 2018. Many people ask the same question.
Where did you get this crazy idea?
Let me paint you a word picture…
There’s me, glasses, messy brown bun on the top of my head and my laptop. There I am writing away on Wattpad. I was by no means famous on the website, but I had a good following. If you would like to see for yourself, click here!
I have been inspired by many people over the years as I write, but two have stood out from the pack. They know nothing about me and have no idea I am name dropping them like this, so please be kind! I love them! They started out writing on Wattpad just like me and have grown in their craft to do amazing things.
DRUM ROLL PLEASE!
Their Wattpad usernames are:
@KanyeInterruptedMe (author name – Kimber Lee)
@iheartbrownies (author name – Nicole René)
Awesome usernames, right? I totally agree. Hold onto your panties, everyone. It’s going to be a mind blowing ride. Incubus romance author, Kimber Lee wrote the titilating and super-sexy paranormal romance, How to Kill an Incubus.
Fans of sexy romantic comedies with a dash of supernatural are comparing this book to The Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones and Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter by Laurell K. Hamilton!
“Rainelle, you were eye-f***ing me in the casino.”
Rainelle Erickson is a gorgeous and sassy Private Investigator, with a peculiar ability. Being the daughter of a demon hunter, she can sense creatures of the night — supernatural beings on the prowl for fresh meat and sex. Living dangerously is her thing and raking out big checks by spying on cheating husbands and exposing them in public fuels her lifestyle. Needless to say, she already has her hands full. Then she bumps into Andrei and the risks just went through the roof.
Andrei Angelescu is as sinfully irresistible as any incubi can be, and he is not just any incubi – he is their king. The whole dark realm is subject to his every whim, and he enjoys the hell out of it.
A chance encounter at a casino sparks a forbidden liaison between the two. However, she is still her father’s daughter, and having an affair with the demon king is not something her father would have approved of. Yet, with just one glance from Andrei’s piercing cerulean eyes, she finds herself being plunged into unknown territories. The scariest thing is that she doesn’t seem to care that much on whether she will sink or swim.
Will she fight her unholy — but oh-so-delicious — attraction to the dark lord? Or will she ignore the warnings of her demon hunter blood and give in to the indescribable enticing pleasures he brings her?
Wow… I need to cool down.
*jumps in the Atlantic ocean*
My stories on Wattpad were pretty tame compared to Kimber’s works. I am still growing my craft and I hope to one day find my inner sex goddess like Kimber has. You go, girl!
Now, while Kimber Lee published by way of a publishing company (Congrats by the way!), she has been a big inspiration to me when it comes to writing out of my comfort zone. I can only hope that one day, my heroines are as badass as Rainelle Erickson.
Make way, make way. The warrior writing goddess, Nicole René! Nicole self-published and wrote the dark historical romance, How the Warrior Fell.
SHE was the Chief’s daughter in a small tribe…
To bring an end to an ancient feud between her tribe and another, Leawyn’s hand in marriage to Chief Xavier was the only way to ensure peace.
HE was the fiercest warrior of them all…
Plucked from everything she’s ever known, and bound to a man she hates, Leawyn must learn to be strong. Each passing day renews Leawyn’s longing to escape, but when a new threat from a mysterious foe puts the tribes in jeopardy, everything changes…including her feelings for Xavier.
Bound between duty and honor, Leawyn must make the decision that could change everything. Can she stay and accept her new life, and her husband? Or is Xavier’s heart too cold for her to melt?
Lines will be broken.
Blood will be shed.
With love being their biggest battle of all, only time will tell, if it will be enough…to make her warrior fall
**Note: This is a Dark Historical Romance with an extremely possessive and dominant warrior. Situations include arranged marriage, sexual content, and dubious consent. Not intended for those uncomfortable with the subject matter, or those under 18.**
Okay… this blog post got steamy really fast! Nicole really helped me to learn how to create raw characters. She has a gift of practically cutting a character open and leaving their innards literally all over the book. You cry, love, groan and even orgasm with her characters throughout her series. I can only imagine how hard it was for her to write the book. I would literally be an emotional mess. Props, girl!
Any-hoo, I followed these women for years, almost like a stalker (shh), until the most heart wrenching thing happened. They unpublished their books from Wattpad and published them on Amazon for sale.
*inhuman, ugly crying ensues*
Don’t worry… I can get through this…
I was blown away! These two incredible authors published their works on Amazon!! They had been and still are successful on Wattpad, but now, they are even more so successful on Amazon. Maybe one day I can interview them and ask them about their process. (hint, hint)
Now, you have to understand, I had never heard of self-publishing before this moment. When I first heard the words “self-publishing”, I thought it meant you literally write the book, then take the manuscript to a printing press to print copies. What an idiot I was!
So… long story short, I purchased the books and…
If they could do it, why couldn’t I? I found myself transported into the self-publishing world! After reading success story after success story, I was INSPIRED!
(side note – if you are interested in self-publishing on Amazon, click here)
These inspiring authors, write, no, too unimaginative, compose works of art! I thought I was impressed when they published these works on Wattpad, but I became even more impressed with how they published on Amazon. So I picked up my computer and I did even more research. Some of my closest friends laugh at me and say Google and I should be married, because I literally use Google for everything! I am a research fiend!
So I hopped on the self-publishing band wagon. I published three “test” books and they’ve done fairly well. Click here to check them out.
If not for these two, amazing authors, I would probably still be on Wattpad, praying that a publisher would come along and find my books interesting enough to be published the old fashioned way.
Kimber Lee and Nicole René gave me the courage to follow my dream and for that I thank them from the bottom of my heart. Cheers, ladies.
